Stopica cave

Stopica Cave is situated on the northest side of the mountain Zlatibor, between villages Rozanstvo and Trnava. It is 250 km far from Belgrade, 30 km from Uzice and only 19km from Zlatibor. There is Zlatibor-Sirogojno mainroad above the cave, from which the cave could be reached by an approach path. This cave cooresponds to a river cave, through which Trnava`s  stream  flows. It is consisted of three potholing and hydrological horizons: periodical flooding, river  horizon, and the youngest  horizon cracks.

Stopica Cave (not including its youngest system) is 1691 metres long, covering an area of 7911.5 square meters with a capacity of over 120 000 cubic metres. The Cave has an impressive entrance on the right side of the river Pristavica. The entrance to the cave is at 711.18 meters above the sea level, 35 metres wide and 18 metres high. The air in the cave is influenced by the external environment: cold in winters and hot in summers. Stopica Cave cosists of five sections: Light  Hall, Dark Hall, Main Hall with hot tubs, Channel with tubs and River channel. The part of the cave  for tourists has several attractive elements such as: a spacious entrance, dugure- openings in the ceiling, Sipar  cone “Dog Cemetery“, “source of Life“waterfall, and above all  a series of basins. Those basins as specific as they are, a trademark of the cave, have been created by limestone deposition. They are  actually alcoves  rimmed by stone walls-bandy, ruddy folds in which water is accumulated, overflowing from the basins. Basins are periodically flooded, standing out with its size and depth, sometimes reach up to 7 metres depth. There is a vortex in the River Channel under which a slide turns into cascades with basins and “giant pots“  in between. Water is flowing down the cascades creating riffles at low waters and a uniqe waterfall of 9.44 m height at high waters. The deafening roaring sound of the water unables you to hear your interlocuter. Foaming water as if  heard from the sky, air quivering with droplets, and coldness  coming from the wet walls, send  shivers down visitors`spines in the complete darkness of the cave. Despite chills and shivers, waterfall is still  called “Source of life“.
